How ATG Access Protected China’s Busiest Hotspot

‘The Bund’, Shanghai is one of the most crowded places across China’s tourist hot spots. ATG Access was approached to provide recommendations for the supply and installation of our impact tested SPTT Automatic Bollards.

Shanghai is one of the most high profile cities in China. Known as the economic capital, the city has a population of over 25 million people. ‘The Bund’ area is known as the most popular place of interest for Shanghai tourists. There are historical buildings along the north Zhongshan road. Also an iconic view of the Pudong Financial District skyscrapers opposite the Huangpu River. This area is classed as a crowded place; especially during peak holiday seasons such as ‘Chinese National Day’.

Bund Project Background

‘The Bund’ saw a deadly stampede which tragically happened on New Year’s Eve 2014. Over 300,000 people had gathered for the annual celebrations. 36 people were tragically killed and 49 injured. Subsequently, the security concerns of the local district government have increased. There has also been an increase in threat levels to crowded places globally due to the emerging ‘vehicle as a weapon’ threat. The government proposed the installation of automatic, high-security bollard systems and a complementary surveillance management system to secure the area.
